Our Horse Rescue

The horses we rescue are saved from a slaughter house. They are young and willing. These horses help children and adults in our Ground Skills Horsemanship and Horse Riding Program. Not everyone wants to ride a horse. Sometimes it's just as fun to be on the ground, walking horses and grooming them; (brushing and bathing).

"As soon as you walk into the barn, smell the hay, and hear the neigh, you are on your way to a really, really good day!!"  Jenny Root, Owner/Trainer

"Hanging out with your equine friends is nourishing to your soul. Our guests linger here. We love it. Some read a book with their horse; others bring a sack lunch and some carrots and munch together. The friendships that develop between horses and horse-lovers are incerdible. Please come and find out how a day at the ranch may change your entire family. If you have a difficult, frustrated or angry teen; leave them with us for a few hours. They will come home changed forever. "

THIS IS BUDDY, our first rescue horse.

He was saved from slaughter

 MAY 5th, 2015!

His new name will be

Shaddai, meaning; "Almighty!"

Thank you for helping to save his life.

Buddy's Sad Story, with a happy ending.

In the early hours of the morning, at 3am, I was on FaceBook enjpying companionship, talking with friends halfway around the world in Pakistan. I noticed an ad for an amazing horse...

~that was due to be slaughtered the next day at Noon!

I clicked on the post and read about the horrors of the horses in line to be slaughtered at the kill plants. Fortunately for some of these lovely animals a team of volunteers had decided to select the best of these horses and give them a chance. The kill plant allows them only one week to sell the horses for about .83c/pound. For most horses the price is $500 with another $500 to ship them out.

When I saw this lovely horse, Buddy, a young two year old, chestnut TWH, I had to save him, but I was too late. I couldn't get the shipping estimate in time. I cried for him since I had not the means to pay thousands to ship him to my barn. The next day, Sunday, I had to ask the volunteers the question; "Dear God, please tell me we didn't lose Buddy to the slaughter house?" The answer came back Sunday evening; "No! Some nice person paid $50 and gave him another week to get bought out."

I was joyful. I talked with my 12 year old daughter and we put our savings together to buy Buddy, our first saved horse. Later that day we saw "Booster" and a means to rescue many more horses over the next year. We are able to rally the volunteers and find the space on our ranch to train and rehome these precious horses... IF we can get the funds to buy them out.

I hope you will be touched and help. I always imagined the horses at a kill plant were past rehoming. I thought they were all dangerous or old and deserved to have their final days be saved from inhumane treatments. I never thought that there were perfectly wonderful horses dumped into these places for a few bucks. We can't allow this to happen.

Just as we care for humanity and the needs of the poor, the needs of the disabled and the needs of those in other countries without food and water, so we shall care for the needs of these animals and they will become a part of our "Chain of Life". Will you find the heart and become a link in our chain? Buy some shirts for your family and friends. Wear them proudly and find us on our website
saving more horses with each new campaign. God Bless You!

BUDDY'S ARRIVAL AT THE RANCH:

i was so anticipating Buddy's arrival, but the morning the big horse trailer from Oaklahoma pulled up at our ranch was one of the worst day's of my life.  Buddy was nothing more than a skeleton with thin skin on top. The kill lot had not fed him since they took my money. They throw a pile of hay in the middle of 50 horses once a day and the stronger horses fight off the weaker ones.  The vet said Buddy may not make it. But we have faith. With specialized feed and water, with love and nurture and a lot of prayer Buddy lived. He enjoys as much food and water as he wants now and is a fit and happy little horse. But he is still very thin. His hips protrude through his coat and his rear legs are still very weak. too weak for him to run and play. In the future Buddy will become Shaddai. Almighty! He will never ever face the cruelty that Oaklahoma laws allow again.

We must all work together to change laws that allow people to cause suffering to animals.

EXPENSES
Approx $1000 per horse gets them out of the kill plant and shipped to our facility. The additional expenses are for food and care. Our volunteer trainers do the rest. Loving nurture, healthy feeds, exercise and training are just a part of what it takes to prepare them to be adopted. Then they are advertised and matched to a forever family. Your support is the ONLY means we have to buy these animals away from slaughter. During their time with us they will be used in our Equine Therapy Program, bringing joy and healing to children and adults with disabilities. Your dollars are one link in this "Chain of Life" for some precious horses. We will post pictures for each campaign to show you the progress of the horses you helped to save.

PROCEEDS
ALL PROCEEDS from the rehoming of horses will go entirely to the Norez Javed Helping Kids Foundation,  in order to provide food and clean water for needy families in Pakistan. These are personal friends of ours. Javed, a pastor and his wife, their son, Norez Javed who is 17, their 14 year old daughter and two orphaned children, 5 and 7 years old, who they adopted. These little ones had no family and were working in the terrible brick kilns in remote regions. Pastor Javed visits 6-8 villages every week to bring them food and water. These are the real deal and have no means of outside support other than our family and our friends.

Please; Become a link in our "Chain of Life!"

Check out the pictures from our partners in Pakistan, passing out food packages, clean water and clothes to the poor villages in Pakistan. Save a horses life and save human lives as well.
